Jade Rona's Biography

IMG_5221_edited.jpg

My name is Jade Rona, and I am 24 years old. I was born in Manhattan, New York to a Haitian/Puerto Rican mom and a classic New York Jewish father. We moved to sunny Los Angeles, California when I was 10 years old and since then I’ve lived all around Los Angeles County. I went across the country back to the Northeast for college at Boston University after being given a scholarship offer, I just couldn’t refuse. Things are constantly shifting, moving, and changing but there are those special aspects to oneself that are always preserved: a love of music, a passion for literature, and a tremendous (sometimes unsettling to some) fascination with film.

I graduated Cum Laude from Boston University in May of 2022, I've worked for the last several years as a freelance writer and game writer. I have utilized the past several years to learn the mechanics of storytelling as well as the steps behind production. My internship at StudioCanal provided a great foundation of knowledge and skills. I completed script coverage and analysis and presented scripts, books, and other materials as potential candidates for production. I had meetings with executives discussing the ins and outs of what it means for a script to go from the page to the screen. I learn new processes quickly and I have a great love for stories and a lot of ambition to succeed.

I completed the Writers’ Assistant & Writers’ PA Workshop course led by writer Steven White. The class entailed numerous lectures, assignments on how to properly board as well format room notes. We walked through all the classic dos and don’ts and learned about both the comedy and drama worlds.

I most recently worked as a contracted Video Game Writer at a start-up Indie company where I supported every aspect of the writing process (i.e., world-building, character/lore docs, and narrative arcs). This included extensive work with Excel spreadsheets, storyline mapping in Miro, as well as collaborative writing work both in team meetings and remotely via Google Docs. We essentially used a writer’s room style of collaboration when brainstorming plot points and character dialogue utilizing Miro as our in-room whiteboard. I was often in charge of notetaking and keeping all of the writing team’s work and files in order.

Over the past 2 years I've had a writing mentor in Trey Kollmer and am currently looking for my next writing venture!
